Captain Oliver's is a waterfront resort that is uniquely located on the French/Dutch border on the island of St. Martin/St. Maarten. The resort is often described as a charming intimate getaway off-the-beaten-path, yet the unique location offers easy accessibility to the island's other attributes. The glass wall of the swimming pool (sometimes called the "People Aquarium") and the International Bridge entrance to Captain Oliver's Restaurant designate the border. The hotel is French, while the restaurants & marina are Dutch - a symbol of the island's unity.
The resort is situated along and above a secluded bay in the prestigious area of the island called Oyster Pond. Dawn Beach is located just across the bay from Captain Oliver's Resort. Free taxi-boat service to and from the beach is provided for hotel guests - it takes just a couple of minutes to get there. Due to the offshore reefs, on calm days it’s great for snorkeling and on windy days there is a nice surf break that is fun for body surfing. Also there is a sandy area in front of the hotel along the seaside boardwalk with some tikis and hammocks that is private for hotel guests.
Captain Oliver’s Resort is a great place to relax, listen to the waves lapping along the shore, watch the pelicans and seagulls diving and the yachts coming in and out of the bay. Plus there is plenty of activity along the marina with three restaurants and four bars where a variety of entertainment is featured most nights. Sailing charters to nearby uninhabited islands and ferry service to the neighboring island of St. Barths depart directly from Captain Oliver’s Marina.
Captain Oliver's Hotel was designed to integrate with nature - the hillside bungalows along the waterfront are nestled among tropical plants, natural rock outcroppings and winding paths. The spacious junior suites have private terraces or balconies offering spectacular views. Each bungalow has 2 or 3 guest rooms that have high-beamed ceilings, tile floors and are simply decorated with white rattan and local art. It's a small intimate hotel that focuses on friendly service and guest comfort.
Each of the junior suites has a separate bar area that has a refrigerator with mini-bar, a sink, and a water heater for tea and coffee. The bathroom has marble counters with double sinks, a shower/bathtub combo, hair dryer and toiletries. The toilet is separate from the bathroom. Climate adjustments can be made with the air conditioner’s remote control. Satellite television offers several channels in English and several in French. There is a choice of either one king bed or two twin beds and an optional rollaway. Rooms can accommodate up to three people. Ocean and Marina view rooms can be connecting via the terrace or balcony. Garden view rooms can be adjoining for larger families with young children that need close supervision.
The Marina view accommodations are 356 square feet and have private balconies that are 75 square feet.
The Garden view accommodations are 520 square feet and have sliding glass doors that open up to the gardens, but no terrace or balcony.
The Ocean view accommodations (bottom picture) are 418 square feet and have private terraces that are 104 - 156 square feet.
The Deluxe Ocean view accommodations (top picture) have the same spacious square footage as the Standard Ocean view, yet they are upgraded with Romantasy luxury bed and bath linens. Each has a pillow topped king size bed, plenty of premium quality DownAlike pillows, a tropical weight down comforter with duvet cover, super-soft first quality high thread count satin stripe bedding, 100% ringspun cotton towels for superior plushness and absorbency and top-of-the-line toiletries.
Captain Oliver's Restaurant was established in 1982 by Parisian restaurateur Olivier Lange who emphasizes fresh seafood, French and Creole cuisine. The open-air restaurant is built on pilings above the bay. Below the restaurant is an aquarium for sharks, turtles, tarpon and other native marine life that can be viewed through the glass floor. There is also a large live lobster tank housed beneath the restaurant. Every Saturday night is Captain Oliver's famous seafood buffet. There is a plentitude of deliciously prepared and pleasingly presented food. The offerings include lobster, shrimp, prime rib, lamb, pork, ribs, chicken, fish, salads, side dishes, desserts and much, much more. And of course, there is live entertainment for your dining and dancing pleasure. On Sundays a brunch buffet is offered in addition to the regular menu. Captain Oliver's Restaurant is open everyday for breakfast, lunch and dinner - nonstop from 7:00am to 10:30pm. In addition to the regular menu, there are daily and nightly specials. The restaurant offers views of the yachts in the marina, the ocean, and the "people aquarium". For your enjoyment live entertainment is featured most nights during the high season.
The glass wall of the fresh water swimming pool designates the French/Dutch border. The lounge chairs on the pool's deck are a great place to relax, listen to the waves lapping along the shore, watch the pelicans and seagulls diving and the yachts coming in and out of the bay. Here you can enjoy a swim, sip on your favorite cocktail, view the neighboring islands on the horizon while being refreshed by the ocean breeze.
