About Antigua |
||||||
t is said that Antigua has 365 beaches - one for every day of the year. Cool and refreshing tradewinds caress this beautiful, unspoiled paradise. Blackbeard the Pirate made the waters off Antigua his personal domain, but today the waters are filled with windsurfers, jet skis, small sailboats and deep sea fishing boats. Scuba divers can choose between exploring the many fabulous reefs or going even deeper to see some of the 200 shipwrecks that lie off the coast of Antigua. On shore, activities turn to tennis, golf and just basking in the warm sunshine. There is much to explore in Antigua: Nelson's Dockyard, which exemplifies 18th century nautical life; the historic capital of St. John's and Shirley Heights, which provides a commanding view of the harbor. Radcliff Quay, a restored historical compound, and Heritage Quay are filled with restaurants and boutiques where shoppers are sure to find duty-free treasures. Island nightlife includes sunset cruises and beach barbecues set to the tune of calypso music. No visit would be complete without a taste of "Antigua Black" pineapple and Antigua's own Cavalier Rum. |
