Surprisingly, for an island that's only 166 square miles, Barbados has a tremendous amount of noteworthy attractions rich in history and culture. Here are just a few of the not to be missed highlights around the island.
Gun Hill StationBarbados National Trust: Founded in 1961 to preserve Barbados heritage. Their Barbados Heritage Passport Program offers visitors special admission to many of the islands historic attractions.
Andromeda Botanic Gardens located in Bathsheba on the east coast is an enchanting tropical garden, Gun Hill Signal Station built in 1818 has one of the best views in the island. Morgan Lewis Windmill is the largest complete windmill in the Caribbean. The Tyrol Cot Heritage Village is the home of the late Sir Grantley Adams and the site of a 1930's chattel house museum and craft center.
Francia PlantationFrancia Plantation: beautiful maintained Plantation House surrounded by tropic gardens. It is still owned and occupied by descendants of the original owner and much of the antique furniture on show has been in family for generations. Many fine pieces of silver can also be seen.
Barbados Wildlife Reserve (St. Peter): Set amidst a lush Mahogany grove where you can mingle with free roaming monkeys, deer, otters, mongoose and many more.
The Flower Forest (St. Joseph): Meticously-kept gardens with paths to guide you through lush vegetation where each plant is identified with its English and Latin names.
Barbados Museum: Divided into a number of galleries and housed in a former military prison, the museum is a "must see". What visitors may find most fascinating are the photographs and prints depicting Barbarian history.

Harrison's Cave (center of the island): fascinating network of underground streams, stalagmites and stalactites.
Electric tram: Ride on an electric tram into Harrisons Cave to explore beautiful underground water falls, Mirror Lake and The Rotunda Room, where the walls of the 250-ft chamber glitter like diamonds. Or view exotic tropical birds and native monkeys at the Oughterson House Barbados Zoo Park. History buffs will delight in finding 17th-century military relics like antique cannons and signal towers around the island.
