Sandcastle Hotel, Jost Van Dyke
4 beachside and 2 garden-view rooms
|
| You have a choice of four beachside or two garden-view rooms, all set within 70 feet of the shore. To enhance your peaceful escape there are no phones or televisions in any of the guest rooms, although the hotel phone is available to guests on an as-needed basis.
Accommodations consist of:
- Two 2-room beachfront 'rondel' cottages
- Two 1-room garden 'rondel' cottages
- Two 1-room garden-view units
The 2-room cottages are located directly on the beach. The others are only slightly behind, so basically all are "on the beach".
All units have king-sized beds, ceiling fans, and inside bathrooms. The four 'rondel' cottages also have a daybed and can accommodate a third person. These units have outside, enclosed showers off the bathrooms, and the water is heated by the sun in tanks on the roofs.
The one-room units were added in 1998 and have inside showers, hot water and air-conditioning. They have a connecting door and can be rented by families or friends as one large unit.
Sandcastle Hotel does not accept children under 16 years of age as overnight guests.

Dining
The open-air, beachfront restaurant is the setting for all the meals.
Lunch is a casual affair. Orders are placed at the bar and delivered to wherever you may be sitting.
The four-course candlelit dinner includes soup, salad, main course and dessert with coffee or tea. Each night they offer a choice of fish, poultry or meat entree. The soups, desserts, dressings and bread are made fresh daily in the kitchen.
Soggy Dollar: Sandcastle is the home of the Soggy Dollar Bar, the birthplace of the "Painkiller" (a very popular rum drink among many guests who sail or motor into White Bay). Since they have no dock, many people swim ashore from their boats and buy their drinks with "soggy dollars".

| Getting to Sandcastle is easiest from Tortola, but airline fare variations and frequent flyer programs may be more economical to land on St. Thomas. Either way, you will need to get to West End Tortola where either the ferry will bring you to Jost Van Dyke. From Beef Island Airport (Tortola), a cab will bring you to West End; you must take a ferry from St. Thomas, or the hotel can arrange for a water taxi to bring you directly into White Bay from Red Hook, St. Thomas. |
