Activities in Jamaica

There is plenty to see and do in Jamaica, so visitors should review their options before missing out on anything the island has to offer.
Dunn's River Falls
Located on the outskirts of Ocho Rios, these falls are probably the most famous and publicized attraction in Jamaica. Many people who have never been to Jamaica are able to instantly recognize pictures of these falls. Guides will lead you up the climb to the top of the cascading waterfalls. You can stroll through the park and shop for souvenirs or sun and swim at the beach below the falls.

Dolphin Cove
Great fun for all the family! Swim with the dolphins: one of the premier attractions in Jamaica. Please reserve Dolphin Cove in advance of your trip with SunVillas to assure you will not be disappointed as this attraction is popular and books out fast.

Shopping
Jamaica has plenty of duty free shops and straw markets. Bargaining is standard practice.

Nightlife
Nightlife on Jamaica includes both on-property shows at the all-inclusive resorts and nightclubs ranging from indoor clubs to beach bashes. For starters, there's reggae, popularized by the late Bob Marley and the Wailers and performed today by son Ziggy Marley, Jimmy Tosh (the late Peter Tosh's son), Gregory Isaacs, Jimmy Cliff, and many others. If your experience of Caribbean music has been limited to steel drums and Harry Belafonte, then the political, racial, and religious messages of reggae may set you on your ear; listen closely and you just might hear the heartbeat of the people. Dancehall is another island favorite, as is soca.
For the most part, the liveliest late-night happenings throughout Jamaica are in the major resort hotels, with the widest variety of spots probably in Montego Bay. Some of the all-inclusives offer a dinner and disco pass to buy a pass, call ahead the afternoon before to check availability and be sure to bring a photo ID with you. Pick up a copy of the Daily Gleaner, the Jamaica Observer, or the Star (available at newsstands throughout the island) for listings on who's playing when and where. In Negril, trucks with loudspeakers travel through the streets in the afternoon announcing the hot spot for the evening.

Golf
Golf courses are numerous and are among the best in the Caribbean. Below are some of Jamaica's famous golf courses:
- Rosehall (Wyndham Rose Hall Resort): 18 holes, 6598 yards par 72
- Half Moon, Rose Hall: 18 holes, 7119 yards, par 72
- Ironshore, Montego Bay: 18 holes, 6633 yards, par 72
- Tryall: Home of the Jamaica World Championship of Golf Tournament - 18 holes, 6920 yards par 71
- Sandals Golf & Country Club: Ocho Rios - 18 holes, 6600 yards par 71
- Super Clubs, Runaway Bay: 18 holes, 6884 yards par 72

Diving
With shallow reefs, walls and caverns, the diving opportunities in Jamaica are diverse. The water is warm (80°F year round) and visibility is very good. There are licensed dive operators in Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios, Falmouth, Runaway Bay and Kingston. The Jamaican Government is beginning to establish marine parks to protect the fragile underwater ecosystems.

Deep Sea Fishing
A half or full day charter will bring you face to face with exciting game fishing. Catches include blue marlin, wahoo, tuna, bonito, kingfish and dolphin.

Horseback Riding
Jamaica provides the perfect atmosphere for horseback riding offering first class mounts for treks over miles of trails. Chukka Cove, between Ocho Rios and Runaway Bay, has a large equestrian center, where you may be able to get together a competitive game of polo! Tel: 876-972-2506.

Cricket
The national past time of Jamaica is cricket. You can watch a game at Sabina Park.

Bicycling
