Jamaica Beaches |
Jamaica has some of the most beautiful and famous beaches in the world. The impressive 7 mile beach at Negril offers peaceful soft white sands as well as a myriad of water sports. Visit the famous Doctors Cave Beach where you can enjoy crystal clear waters that are reported to be fed by mineral springs. The famous James Bond Beach is a short journey from Ocho Rios where you can experience the beautiful backdrop of the lush mountains of St Mary and Golden Eye where Ian Flemming wrote the James Bond Books.
Ocho Rios Two of the most popular beaches in Jamaica are Turtle Beach and Mallard Beach. Mallards Beach, in the center of Ocho Rios, is full of the activities one usually associates with a thriving beach community. Crowded when the cruise ships come in, Mallards is for those who like to mix people-watching with beach fun. Another popular spot is Turtle Beach, a smaller, less crowded beach with brilliant white sand that slopes gently into the ocean, a great place for those with small children. You can also toss down a towel at Dunn's River Beach, located just below the famous falls. This beach is great for those who want to don some snorkeling gear and head to the reef located just off shore. Other watersports like parasailing, water skiing, jet skiing, canoeing, and kayaking are also available.
Negril Seven Mile Beach, famous for being a favorite hot spot of the 1960's hippie movement, is home to a care-free, laid-back environment that includes nude bathing. Although it was once an idyllic retreat into natural Jamaica, now this area is more of a tourist attraction than a hippie retreat. If you are visiting this beach, expect to see many sun worshipers wearing nothing but their birthday suits. Many of the resorts also host nude beaches as well as bars, hot tubs and swimming pools.
Montego Bay Doctors Cave Beach: this 8km (5-mile) stretch of white sand made "Mo Bay" a tourist destination. Waters are placid and crystal clear, and there are changing rooms and a beach bar. This one is a family favorite. Cornwall Beach is also a favorite in Montego Bay. This favored Jamaican beach is within less than half a mile from the major tourist resorts in Montego Bay and is a must stop for anyone who vacations in Mobay.
Port Antonio Boston Bay is known not only for its white sands and clear waters, but also for the great jerk-pork stands. This beach has the biggest waves in Jamaica, and you can rent surfboards and even get a lesson. Frenchman's Bay is said to be among the most beautiful beaches in the world. For a small charge a visitor can sunbathe, swim, body surf, or simply relax in the shaded parts of this gorgeous Jamaican treasure.
Kingston Area Lime Cay is a gorgeous area for bathing and water sports just outside of Kingston. Because it is a small island, it's best to hire a boat at Port Royal to transport you back and forth between this little slip and the city port area.
Runaway Bay It is most famous for its great scuba diving, but the town also has some good Jamaican beaches. Most Runaway Bay Jamaica beaches are owned by resorts, but the Cardiff Hall Public Beach is free and open to the public.
