THINGS TO DO IN GRAND TURK There are many things to do in Grand Turk. Scuba Diving may be this island's main attraction, but don't let that stop you from exploring the island's history, culture and local people, also known as 'belongers'.
Watch the sunset - From your balcony or at poolside, there is nothing like a Grand Turk sunset. Watch for the green flash while sipping a cold drink. Locals will tell you its not so elusive at all. If you join the Green Flash Club you receive a free cocktail! (ask Jenny for details)
Snorkel at Governor's Beach - One of Grand Turk's nicest beaches is Governor's Beach. White sand, crystal clear water nipping at your feet as you stroll along the mostly secluded beach, this is also one of the better snorkel spots on the island. Scuba Diving - Grand Turk has one of the most lush wall systems in the entire world. Healthy corals, diverse marine life and visibility that exceeds 100 feet often calls divers from around the world. The wall is a 10 minute ride from the beach, where your dive shop will conveniently pick you up.
Stroll through Cockburn Town - A leisurely stroll through Cockburn town will reveal the history of the island. Find the cannons and you will discover the first landfall of Christopher Columbus, dated October 12, 1492. The Turks & Caicos National Museum boasts out cultural history of the islands, the discovery and the impact of early European settlement, natural and political history and the role played in the 20th century space exploration are all recorded at the museum.
The Lighthouse - At this site, you will find the lighthouse keepers residence, as well as the kerosene storage building, built of local limestone blocks.
At night, the lighthouse was often the only guidepost mariners had to steer them away from the treacherous Northeast reef, extending eastward far out to sea and was responsible for an untold number of shipwrecks.
Bicycle Tour - Cruise around Grand Turk by bicycle! Ride up and down Front street, glide into town by the shore to explore the many facets of Cockburn Town. See the many different styles of island homes, some more than a century old. Please note, this biker is going the wrong way on a one way street!
There are many other things you can do on the island. Play golf at the Govenor's own 9 Hole Golf Course. Take a ride to see the Pink Flamingos at North Creek. Go horseback riding up and down the white sandy beaches. If working out is your thing, Grand Turk even has a full gym!
